Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the Faculty of Letters and Arts and the Alumni Organization are proud to announce a new edition of the PHILOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS to be held in Sibiu, 4-‐6 October 2018.
This year’s theme is Playfulness in Language, Literature, Education, and the Media. Papers are invited in the following fields:
• Literary Studies
• Language Studies
• Translation Studies
• Education Studies
• Cultural Studies
• Media Studies
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Children’s literature, theatre and film
- Representations of childhood in literature
- Innovation, technical experimentation, narrative and stylistic playfulness in contemporary fiction
- Linguistic invention, wit and wordplay in literature, journalism, advertising, etc.
- The role of games, stories, make-believe and play in education
- Literary translation: the challenges of translating puns, wordplay, jokes and riddles
- Imitation, impersonation, and parody in contemporary culture
- Play’s relationship to language, discourse, and communication (play theories and their application in linguistics, discourse analysis, media and communication studies, etc.).
BA, MA, and PhD Students are encouraged to choose case studies in these fields and contact professors who might serve as supervisors of their research in view of preparing 15-‐minute presentations to be delivered at the conference. All presentations will be given in English and a selection will be published in the proceedings volume.
Deadline for submission of paper proposals: 30 June 2018
Notification of acceptance: 10 July 2018.

Accommodation and lunch, as well as coffee and refreshments during scheduled breaks will be provided at the organizers’ expense. There is no registration fee.
