Rodica Albu, PhD, Dr. Habil., is Professor Emerita at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi, founding member of the Linguaculture Centre for (Inter)lingual and (Inter)cultural Research and editor of the journal with the same name, author, co-author and editor of volumes and author of many articles that testify to her interest in dynamic approaches to language, culture and society in their interrelatedness. She is also co-organizer of the C. S. Lewis conference series, which started in 2013 and has reached its 5th edition in 2022. Starting in the early ‘90s she introduced the students of English to the metalanguage used in the study of language varieties and to multidisciplinary approaches to Present-Day English in relation to geographical, social and functional variation. Her teaching load also included Introduction to the Study of Meaning (semantics and pragmatics), (Inter)cultural Studies (focus on Ireland and Canada), Terminology, Text Linguistics, Research Methods in Applied Linguistics (for teachers), and Introduction to Systemic-Functional Linguistics (for the students of the Doctoral School for Philological Studies).

Odette Irenne Blumenfeld was born in Iasi, Romania, in 1947. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Philology, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi, with a diploma in English language and literature and Romanian Language and Literature. She obtained her doctoral degree in Philology from the University of Bucharest in 1979. Her PhD thesis was devoted to an analysis of European influences on the American drama of the 20th century.
She occupied, successively, the positions of instructor (1969-1977), assistant professor (1977-1990), associate professor (1990-1998), full professor (1998-2012) at the Department of English, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. She was Head of this Department (1995-2012). She initiated and directed the undergraduate and MA programmes in American Studies at the Faculty of Letters of the same university. She was a member of the National Council for Awarding University Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (2008-2011). She won a Fulbright grant for research in the poetics and semiotics of the theatre at Washington University in St. Louis (1990), an ACLS grant for research in the field of feminism at CASTA, CUNY Graduate Center, New York (1994-1995).
I am a professor of English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.
I hold a PhD in English Linguistics from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi and an MA diploma in Teaching from the School for International Training, Brattleboro, Vermont, USA, and a BA in English and French from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi. I am a graduate of “Emil Racoviţă” High School of Iaşi.
My work experience covers over a decade of teaching at primary and secondary school level and then teaching general English, English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Letters.
I contributed to two national research grants, coordinating the UAIC team: 2006-2008: institutional director of Grant CEEX:"System for comunicating with people with severe neuro-locomotor disabilities - TELPROT", 69CEEX - II 03/28.07.2006; Contract UAIC no. 15258/7.08.2006. 2008-2011: institutional director of PNCDI II Project: „Integrative system for assisting patients with severe neuro-motor disabilities: ASISTSYS”. Centrul National de Management Programe. Contract No. 12-122/ 01.10.2008, contract UAIC no. 9309p/17.10. 2008.

Ștefan Colibaba holds a Ph.D. in English and American Literature (Al.I.Cuza University Iasi), an M.A. in TEFL (School for International Training, Brattleboro, Vermont, U.S.), and a B.A. in English and French (Al.I.Cuza University Iasi).
In terms of work experience, he taught English at secondary school level for over 10 years before joining the English Department at Al.I.Cuza University where he has been teaching English and American literature since 1991.
Ștefan Colibaba writes on the theory of short fiction and on the teaching of literature, and co-authors books on language development and human rights/citizenship education.

Rodica Dimitriu, Professor and PhD Advisor, was head of the Department of English between 2012-2020. In this capacity, she did her best to increase the prestige of the department as well as its international dimension, along the lines traced by her predecessors, professors Dumitru Dorobat and Odette Blumenfeld. Rodica Dimitriu is also the initiator and coordinator of the translation and interpreting undergraduate and MA programmes of the Faculty of Letters (1997-2020), at a time when specialisation in these disciplines was needed more than ever. She is the author of books and articles in the fields of translation studies, British literature, cultural studies and ELT. Her interest in translation studies research has particularly focused on ideology and cultural issues in translation, translation and pragmatics as well as on translation teaching. A founding member, then editor-in-chief (2013-2020) of LINGUACULTURE, the publication issued by the research centre affiliated to the Department of English, she has also been a member in the editorial board of the international peer-reviewed collection Vita Traductiva (Editions Québécoises de l’oeuvre), and a member in the advisory board of several prestigious international journals of translation (e.g. Across Languages and Cultures, Perspectives. Studies in Translatology, ESP across Cultures, BAS etc). In Romania, she has also been in charge of the Translation Studies series at the Institutul European publishing house in Iasi. Her positions as author of articles writing for outstanding journals and publishing houses abroad, and as evaluator of articles for some of these publications, her active participation in outstanding international academic events relating to translation studies worldwide have brought her international visibility (see professional visibility).
